Funk-y randomness

I have been in kind of a funk earlier this month. Not exactly sure why. Once the dust settled from packing, moving and unpacking and everything was in it's place, I felt pretty blah. Not very explainable I know. I was (still kind of am) getting frustrated with the lack of resources, lack of ability to find anything for Kian to do around here. Even though I'm closer to my family, it's not the familiar-ness of this place and location that it once was. A lot has changed around here. I've been gone 11 years. I had made Rochester (Chili/Spencerport) my home and yes this is what we wanted to do, but it's still change. In Ogden I had so many options because were were 5 minutes from Gates, Spencerport, Chili, etc. so that there was always something to do. Not that we have to do something every day, but in the winter it's nice to get out and burn off energy for the kids.

I did finally find some programs at the Y, that I can get Kian in without being a member, just for a few dollars more. He went for the first time Thursday. He didn't even want me to stay the first time, not even a few minutes; went right in and sat at the table with the other little boy. When he got home he asked me when there was more preschool for him. He's definitely his father's social butterfly kid. Now, I just need more mom friends that are available during the day...

Of course the holidays are upon us, which is more change with what we're doing and what we did in past years. Too much figuring out, who's where, when, what, etc. I'm glad to not get up early Thanksgiving morning, go to one place then drive an hour and eat another huge meal. Relaxing in your own home, smelling the deliciousness and watching the parade and having 30 people come to you? that's where it's at. ha!

And the days I lack motivation to follow around a 3.5 yr old, a 1 yr old and a 8 month old dog in their path of mass destruction...yeah those are bad days. I think I just didn't have a focus after moving and needed a regrouping. Sometimes being a stay at home mom is even more daunting than being at work, and instead of schlepping through it, I do nothing. But, now that everyone is healthy and we've got our focus back and things on the calendar and some mini "home preschooling" things we're going to accomplish I feel much better. Lists and calendars are my friends. I need visuals to see what we're doing and when and how much time we have. That also helps with the enormity of cleaning and upkeep in this house. So much more than the other house and more maintenance, etc. But, we're back on track. And the best part is, I've knocked out both boys, and a 3-4 other people on my Christmas list already with online deals! Woo!

Now I'm off to cook squash and do lots of laundry....

Do you like other blogs for inspiration on what to do with the kids at home?

I recently found www.icanteachmychild.com due to a giveaway (that I didn't win of course) that has some cool activities. Easy ones that are explorer-y for kids.
